In most MMOs mounts are a simple movement speed boost, making you run faster. In some you can fight while mounted, in others the mount despawns as soon as you get infight, but in general it's just a bonus to your movement speed. That's not how GW2 work. You get straight up movement speed from your character's skill.
Alternatively you can create a hard link between your steam gw2 and normal gw2 folder. This is the answer. Simple short cut wouldn't work, so had to use the mklink command to create a junction between the install folder and the steamapps/Common. Mklink /j "steamapps/common/Guild Wars 2" "s:/Guild Wars 2".
It could be from one of the many bugs that havenāt been fixed since launch. One of the workarounds was to logout to character select and then back into the game. Iām also making the assumption that you both are either on NA or EU as I donāt believe you can join someoneās party if theyāre on another region.

You can enjoy the pvp and pve together aslong as you and your friend are on EU, you can join eachothers map instances by right clicking eachothers portrait in party and pressing join on map. You won't be able to do wvw together, although there's a system coming that will allow people in the same guild to be put together on the same team in wvw
